Front (south) elevations of the Craftsman style bungalow built for Capt. W. C. (Bill) and Annie Riddiford, the Kirby house under construction, and the Morley house (1223 Lockhart Road) in the background,1219 was built for John Thomas (Jack) and Alice Maude (nee Gilbert) Kirby, who moved in shortly after their marriage February 8, 1922, and lived here until 1959. The property was purchased from Ephraim Burns. Jack returned from overseas after the First World War and was employed as a notary public and liaison officer between patients and the Federal Government at the Brant Military Hospital, until it closed. He leased the Cities Service gas station in Westdale for 16 years while honing his skills as artist, etcher and printmaker in the rear room of the station. After the Second World War he was employed by Halliday Building Supplies creating illustrations and lettering for their many catalogues.,Mary (nee Kirby) Robson.
