Burlington Public Library's (BPL) local history collection contains many historical materials about the City of Burlington, including a large selection of books, published local histories, biographical files of pioneer families, files on cemeteries, churches and schools, local newspapers and indexes, directories, postcards, atlases, photographs, scrapbooks, yearbooks and more.

The Burlington Historical Society (BHS) is a registered charity, founded in 1899 and has been serving the community for over 50 years as an affiliated member of the Ontario Historical Society. For more than 25 years, the Burlington Historical Society (BHS) has been in partnership with the Burlington Public Library.

In 2017, Burlington Public Library collaborated with the City of Burlington through Service Burlington to facilitate a digitization project to digitize and make available a small selection of assets from the City Archives.
