The Burlington Runners Club (BRC) began in 1967 as an extension of the local YMCA. Membership remained small until 1973 when seven members ran the Boston Marathon which led to publicity that helped BRC grow. By 1979, BRC had grown enough to become its own organization with an elected executive team and constitution. A bi-monthly newsletter was also started.
The inaugural Burlington Road Race was held in April 1973 and had approximately 150 competitors. BRC now hosts weekly running events and training sessions as well as local races including the Robbie Burns Road Race, Good Friday Road Race, Sulphur Springs Trail Race and Iroquoia Trail Test. The BRC remains active with members from Burlington and surrounding areas.
The Burlington Runners Club fonds includes issues of their club newsletters and photographs from 1977 to present.
